Don’t Eat Pete Pumpkin Printable
Today I want to share a game we have played in our home over the years called Don’t Eat Pete.
One thing you may not yet know about me is that I love to have fun. Especially with my family and my kiddos to boot! My dad is known for making others laugh; I always say I got my funny from him.
So around here, we have fun, maybe even too much fun. Is there such a thing? Nah!!
Games are an excellent way to connect with our kids, particularly if a game leads to laughter.
Laughter is the best medicine, and I recommend high doses of it.
How to Play Don’t Eat Pete
1. Place one piece of candy (or a small snack of choice) on each pumpkin.
2. Send one player out of the room (or simply have them close their eyes) while the rest of the group chooses one of the pumpkins on the game board to be “Pete.”
3. When the player returns, he eats the candies one at a time; but the minute he touches the candy on “Pete,” the rest of the group yells, “DON’T EAT PETE!!” At this point, the one who is “it” is usually startled, and everyone laughs (my favorite part). And that’s all there is to it. That’s the end of their turn.
4. Refill the game board for the next player and continue until all have had a turn.
What is the Object of Don’t Eat Pete
When I asked my teens, “How would you answer the question, what is the object of the Don’t Eat Pete game?” One of my daughters said, “To eat as many treats as you can before you DIE!” after a pause, she added, “Of fright!” 😂
When you play, you’ll see why that’s funny. See, I told you we have too much fun around here, lol
This game is incredibly entertaining for my older kids, who enjoy a good scare.
Side Note
Sometimes the littles are so tender-hearted that they are frightened by the jump scare of the game. They still can participate in the fun, but maybe modify the game a little and don’t yell as loudly with them 🙂

What Do You Need for a Don’t Eat Pete Game?
For this game, you only need a few things:
- a downloadable gameboard printed on heavy cardstock
- clear contact paper
- plenty of small candies (M&M’s, Skittles, fruit snacks, cereal, etc.)
Alternatively, you could print it onto regular paper and then toss it when you finish playing the game. (Oh no, don’t do that!) Besides, I have a hunch you will want to play this game again and again. In that case, printing on heavy cardstock and laminating it is a great option.
Conclusion
Okay, there you have it, a game that is sure to produce smiles and laughter galore. So, print this off, grab a yummy bag of treats, and have fun making memories with your kiddos.
Big Hugs, 🤗
