How Gratitude Leads to God’s Peace | Philippians 4:6-7

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and then thank him for all he has done.”
Then you will experience God’s peace…”

I love this passage of scripture. It is one that I return to again and again because it always resets my mind and brings peace to my heart. In the NLT, the wording is simple and straightforward and yet packed with transformative power. It begins:

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need…”

What do you need, Mama?

  • wisdom?
  • supplies?
  • patience?
  • energy?

“…and thank Him for all He has done.”

  • What has gone well?
  • Where has He answered a prayer?

When we reflect on what God has done and how He has come through for us before, it gives us peace that He will do it again.

How’s that, you say? Because real gratitude fills our hearts as we ponder the goodness of God, those times He has shown Himself strong and made impossible situations in our lives possible.

And other times when He shows us little kindnesses, ones that might not matter much to anyone else, yet they mean the world to us.

It’s personal.❤️

As a result, we remember two transformative truths: first, that He loves us, and second, that He is in control and capable of meeting any need that we have.

It’s interesting, as I reflect on this verse, to realize that practicing gratitude is not for God’s benefit.

God doesn’t need my thanksgiving.

Actually, He encourages us to be grateful because He knows that we need our thanksgiving. According to this verse, after we show our gratitude, that’s when peace follows.

“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.”

I love how the next part of the verse speaks to our hearts and minds.

“His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

There is nothing in this world that is equal to the peace that God brings. It acts as a guard when our hearts could otherwise break or our minds could give way.

God’s peace keeps our minds calm and our hearts full, no matter what we face.

I pray that as we reflect together, these words will continue to encourage you and bring the peace our hearts long for.

Much Love,
